Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa
The Subclass 189 visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who do not need to be sponsored by an employer, state, or family member. It is points-tested and allows successful applicants to live and work anywhere in Australia. Holders of this visa can access Medicare, study, sponsor eligible relatives, and eventually apply for Australian citizenship.
Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa
The Subclass 190 visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. It is points-tested and requires applicants to have an occupation on the relevant skilled list. Visa holders must live and work in the nominating state or territory for a set period, after which they can live and work anywhere in Australia.
Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa
The Subclass 491 visa is a temporary visa that allows skilled workers and their families to live, work, and study in regional Australia for up to 5 years. It is points-tested and requires nomination by a state/territory government or sponsorship by an eligible family member in a designated regional area. After meeting residency and work requirements, visa holders may be eligible to apply for permanent residency through the Subclass 191 visa.
